Marshall McDonald has played and recorded with The Lionel Hampton Orchestra, The Count Basie Orchestra, Paquito D’Rivera and the United Nation Orchestra, The Chico O’Farrill Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Charli Persip and Supersound Band, The Cab Calloway Orchestra, Illinois Jacquet Big Band, and has backed numerous stars, Tony Bennett, Arethra Franklin, The Temptation, The Four Tops, Milt Jackson, Nina Simone, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Mathis, Frank Wess, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Freddie Hubbard and others. McDonald is a multi-intrumentalist. Count Basie saxophonist John Williams said that Marshall has played every chair in the Basie band but baritone sax, and noted that Marshall has played every chair in the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
